Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such. One of the American writers Henry Miller quotes in his book ‘The World of Sex’ in 1957.
In ‘Pancharangi’ director of eminence Yogaraj Bhat speaks about life. To the present scenario Yogarj Bhat has looked at ‘Life’ in the form of dialogues on silver screen in his perspective of art of living. Accusing at various stages of life, various people Bhat looks at in negative shade. Bhat seems to be aware life itself is like an iceberg. The most important part is hidden under the water. It interests to dive down to the most hidden places. So he opts for freaking out in life rather than making a deep dive in to life.
It is not bad enough to know the past. It is bad enough to know the future. But living the present life as of now is best part- Yogarj Bhat’s focus in this film. You live as you wish in right way he advocates through ‘Pancharangi’. At places Yogaraj Bhat is very mediocre and he has not been able to escape from the routine commercial cinema pattern. The major flaw is also in the editing front. Before the television shots of fake Swamiji (maternal uncle of Bharat and Lucky) the portion that appears on screen is repeated. This is an indication that Yogaraj Bhat standard is dipping.
There is absolutely no dearth for funny moments in this film and Bhat’s dialogues are in excess in this film. What he could have written for four films he had written for his one film that happens to be his own production too with Subramanya. The over confidence and over load of dialogues is seen throughout the film.
Like in ‘Mungaru Male’ and ‘Gaalipata’ director Yogaraj Bhat bring in one family to the house of another family. No need to say it is for a marriage purpose. The coastal Karnataka he catches up this time instead of Malnad in ‘MM’ and ‘Gaalipata’
Bharathkumar (Diganth) specialist in fitting Sarees to dolls in a showroom earning his educational fees to complete Master in Arts, elder brother Lucky (Pawankumar) just returned from foreign for marriage- parents of both (Padmaja Rao and Sunder Raj) with a dog and Panchakshari (Shinu) maternal uncle a posing Swamiji and marriage broker (Raju Thalikote) hire a bus (why do you need a huge bus for only six members and a dog) in which driver and his blind father (Nagaraj Urs and Sudhakar) are travelers to Karwar.
Lucky, a foreign returned guy has to get married quickly in his holidays so the six plus a dog come to the house of Latha (Ramya Barna) and Ambika (Nidhi Subbaiah) where the elders Sudha Belawadi, Nagendra Shah live with a servant and his sister.
What the regular film goers expect follows soon. The confusion of Ambika posing as Latha with Bharathkumar gives to some twist that is expected. For being a part of this costly prank both Ambika and Bharathkumar are sent out from the house. Latha, the bride aspirant likes Lucky but once again the mobile phone message divulges the clue that this marriage is not going to happen. The audiences are right again!
Thrown out temporarily Bharath and Ambika know each other through careless talks. That once leads to expected turn out. They fall in love. But all is not great in the house where the new match finding discussion is going on.
The maternal uncle of Bharath and Lucky is missing. He is coined as Swamiji. At this juncture is the great editing problem (from what we have seen in the Premier at Triveni theatre on Thursday night). Instead of television shots for the audience the earlier day portions of 100 feet length comes up once again on the screen.
Baffled invitees do not get explanation from Yogaraj Bhat for that lapse. The situations further moves (it is not proper to say the story moves on because there is not big story in this film)
It is time for depression as suppressed facts surface. The servant’s daughter marries bus driver and shocks about the how simple the marriage should be. Lucky girl friend surface and Bharath explains the facts that his brother has been compelled to come here to have a look at the girl. Lucky walks out with his girl friend. It is utter chaos as maternal uncle of Bharath and Kalyan is exposed.
Now the lovers still not known to everyone is Bharath and Ambika. Bharat walks away without saying anything to Ambika. Finally the changed attitude of Bharath towards life makes him to accept Ambika.
Diganth the dimple star of Kannada cinema is delectable in his role. He has easily rendered dialogues and lived happily throughout the film. He represents the youths of today who are filled with lot of confusion in life because of dejection and rejections.
Nidhi Subbaiah has a very bright future. The dubbing for her role has added extra dimension. She looks like a queen in Saree. In the song Udisale Belakina Seereya….she looks gorgeous.
Ramya Barna with dubbing from actress Neethu has a short and sweet role. Ananthnag is amazing once again. Nagendra Shah, Padmaja Rao, Sudha Belawadi, Sudhakar as bus owner have all done good job in their respective roles.
The two pillars of this rain of dialogues film ‘Pancharangi’ are – music director Mano Murthy and cameraman Thyagarajan.
Mano Murthy’s magic has come back again. Giving four lovely tunes for a film is no small task. The best melody Udisuve Belakina Seereya….is grand, the songs Pancharangi title track, Hudugaru Beku…. Life Ishtene….are foot tapping.
In the beginning comedy artist Raju Thalikote not fit on the screen through the camera of Thyagarajan but later on going to the nature beauty he has done a wonder. The night effect and top angle shots of Thyagarajan need special mention.
Are you fun loving chatter box kind? Then you can easily watch this film.
